Schedule an appointment with Total Care to find out if GLP-1 is right for you!

GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like peptide-1. It’s a hormone naturally produced in the body and plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels and appetite. GLP-1 receptor agonists are a class of medications that mimic the actions of this hormone, primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes and, in some cases, obesity.

What GLP-1 Does:
  • Regulates Blood Sugar:
GLP-1 helps lower blood sugar levels by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin when blood glucose is high. It also reduces the release of glucagon, another hormone that raises blood sugar.

  • Reduces Appetite:
GLP-1 can slow down the emptying of the stomach and increase feelings of fullness, which can lead to reduced food intake and weight loss.

  • May have Cardioprotective Effects:
GLP-1 receptor agonists have shown potential in reducing the risk of cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and strokes.
